Dry chemical fire extinguishers are the most common in use today. They are capable of taking care of most fires as they are rated ABC.

  • Monammonium Phosphate dry chemical agent is used in most ABC fire extinguishers.
  • Manufactured to ANSI/UL299 and 711 standards. ISO9001-2000 registered.
  • Stored pressure operation generally under 200 lbs PSI.

 

Typical uses are offices, warehouse areas, woodworking areas, farms, general assembly areas, and homes.

Dry chemical fire extinguishers

Service Information

A trained or certified person who has the manufacturer's service manual shall service the extinguisher not more than one year apart. It will include checks of location, obstructions, pressure gauge, weight and heft, and condition. At the time a new tag listing type, date, and service performed will be noted and initialed by the technician. Maintenance involving an internal examination will be required no more than 6 years apart and a hydro-test will be required within a 12 year period. Labels shall be attached recording activity for proof of servicing.

Carbon Dioxide (CO2) fire extinguishers work by extreme cooling and a reduction of oxygen to the fire. They have a limited range and can be affected by drafts and wind. To be able to fight the fire effectively you need to be able to get close to the source of flames. CO2 fire extinguishers are rated BC.

Clean agent fire extinguishers

Service Information

Trained personnel should perform annual inspections for proper weight, condition, and pressure. A listed closed recovery system is needed for agent recharging to perform an internal examination of the cylinder which is required every 6 years or when other indications say it is needed. A hydro-test is required not more than 12 years apart.

Stored pressure water extinguishers and water type extinguishers are rate A. They are good for paper or wood fires. While this limits their usefulness in many situations, they still have a specific application. They are an economical choice when deployed into appropriate areas. ◦ Utilizes water, antifreeze, wetting agents, and loaded stream fire protection as the agent.
